Storms breaking up surrounding coral, washing up on beach, slightly increasing/rising area
Sea level rise reducing area

One of the reasons climate alarmism works so well:
When something bad happens, it gets blamed on climate
When nothing bad happens — you don't hear about it

For instance: the US is right now experiencing the lowest amount of drought since 2000

Of course, instead, we're talking about flooding in the Mid-west.
And yes, that is a problem.

But remember, 1) even the US Climate Assessment says that flooding has both increased and decreased, and can't be attributed to climate

Working on Sunday, grateful for everyone realizing climate change not a horror-story but problem (2-4%), and doing the single-soul best to make the world better through effective policies (like tb, malaria, contraception, free trade) and not just making energy more expensive
(And yes, global warming is real, but the alarmist codswallop of 'horror' simply scares kids and adults, makes them accept hugely costly policies, while being untrue — cost about 2-4%, as shown by UN Climate Panel, here updated by Nobel Laureate Nordhaus, nber.org/reporter/2017n…)

I do so in part because Marx here lays out fundamental categories in an a priori and somewhat cryptic, take-it-or-leave-it fashion that could do with elaboration.
But I am also interested in getting you, as quickly as possible, familiar with the kind of close reading of Capital that is necessary if you are to understand it. Don’t worry, I will not continue at this level of intensity!

As a "contemptuous Remainer", may I assure you that I have considered the implications of "winning", as you put it, very carefully.
First, Remainers long ago gave up the idea of #Brexit being a winner/loser situation. They are all too fully aware that leaving/2
2/ will be nothing but lose/lose all round. Oh, except maybe for those who are trying to avoid the new tax legislation.
Second, the 48% who voted #Remain, and the @the3million and @BritishInEurope who were disenfranchised in the 2016 referendum /3
3/know only too well what it's like to have their vote ignored and their postal votes "lost" or maybe never counted. The BBC & other *impartial* media outlets name them persistently as #Remoaners, if mentioned at all. The PM referred to them as "losers" in the Withdrawal Bill. /4

i'll admit - i missed half of pelosi's acceptance speech, having to do so much, but i did dvr it, and finally watched. what i did not realize, one of her 3 guests was mickey hart from the grateful dead. i knew several of them were there for her when she first became speaker 1/
as she is a huge dead fan ... going way back. i bring this up for a specific point ... going back to the early 70s the dead were staunch environmental activists - partnering with democrats, (some repubs - who really believed in the cause) and environmental groups, 2/

I would love to be able to run FDA-style lab testing on our GIANT ARRAY OF SIMILARLY HABITABLE PLANETS but alas we were only issued the one. So computer models it is, bucko.
Also the FDA would never approve global warming BECAUSE IT’S BAD FOR THE PLANET.
So, like, by THIS argument, they’re the ones who want to inject additional chemicals in the environment. This is NOT APPROVED BY THE FDA (lolololol), and we have only computer models (which incidentally don’t even say it’s safe).

So cut that shit out, right now.

The fundamental assumption underlying our Capital Markets is Trust:

That we can Trust the US Government is a risk free counterparty and therefore has riskless debt.
The boom in Capital Markets over the last number of decades has coincided with a world where American dominance was unquestioned. Where it would be absurd to question whether the US Government was a Risk free counterparty.
The most dangerous thing to do with Trust is to abuse it.

Taking advantage of people’s trust is one certain way to undermine confidence and ultimately doing so breeds the opposite: distrust. Doubt.
