The @FBI's FOIA chief appears to be confused as to my status as a member of the news media for purpose of assigning fees to my request.

I replied to his illegal denial of news media status in this administrative appeal to @TheJusticeDept, mailed today. documentcloud.org/documents/6142…

Thank you to @RCFP for all of its vital work preserving press freedom in the United States in this fraught era, and thank you to its attorney @a_marshall_plan for speaking out against this absurd and pernicious denial.
As my letter linked at the top of the thread shows, I do not intend to take this decision quietly, and I will continue to provide updates on my appeal.

For those who haven't been following Zarrab's case, it's the biggest money laundering scheme to Iran charged in U.S. history. Zarrab was the ex-ally-turned-accuser of Turkey's Erdogan, and Zarrab once had Rudy Giuliani as an attorney.

This is Trump putting his thumb on two ongoing cases implicating his cronies:

* Flynn’s, for obvious reasons
* Bijan Kian, a former Trump transition team member and Flynn’s alleged handler as a paid agent for the Turkish govt.

Flynn’s reportedly a witness in Kian’s case.
Flynn persuaded the judge to delay his sentencing explicitly because he planned to cooperate more in Kian’s case.

Potential meddling in two criminal cases involving his cronies in a single tweet.

Zero discernible consequences.
Flashback: The moment when Flynn’s attorney requested a sentencing delay to assist in the Kian case in EDVA.

Before firing his lawyers, Flynn was reportedly expected to be the star witness if the case went to trial.

New: @PPFA and the @ACLU filed separate lawsuits in SDNY suing @HHSGov for issuing a rule that "would allow almost any health care provider" to deny "virtually any health service" -- or withhold info on health care options -- based on personal objections alone. @CourthouseNews
The challenge the rule, set to take effect on July 22, 2019, as "arbitrary and capricious," in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act (APA).

The Trump administration has a long-established trend of losing APA cases.

The ACLU just issued its press release on this.

The FBI's #FOIA office is the worst, perhaps the worst of all federal government agencies. Just opened a letter in response to request I filed five years ago. Instead of searching for new records responsive to my request, the bureau gave me a set of records it already released 1/
Now I need to file an appeal challenging the integrity of the FBI's search and wait for DOJ Office of Information Policy, which is also terrible, to decide whether to remand the request or affirm. This will take many more months. The process is broken 2/2
I literally spend years fighting with these agencies, especially FBI, trying to get them to follow the law and release records under the #FOIA. What these agencies do in response is try to figure out ways to thwart requesters and violate the law.
