There's been discussion of whether Google should be booted from the San Francisco pride parade because of hate speech on YouTube. But let's not just blame YouTube! Journey with me into a thread of political donations Google has made in support of hate. advocate.com/pride/2019/6/0…
Just this March, Google gave money to Tom Emmer. Emmer is pals with a radical figure named Bradlee Dean, who in the bigotry bifecta referred to Muslims calling for the executions of homosexuals in America as "more moral than even the American Christians." startribune.com/a-possible-cam…
Texas Senator Ted Cruz backed the nomination of Jeffrey Mateer as a Federal judge even it was revealed he had called transgender children part of 'Satan's plan'. Mateer's nomination was withdrawn under pressure, but Google had no compunction about continuing to give Cruz money.
Steve Scalise is one of the most vocal anti-LGBT politicians in Congress, a man who in addition to his regular appearances at anti-gay events once spoke at a white supremacist convention. Google gave him the maximum donation it could make in the 2018 campaign.
North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows chairs the House Freedom Caucus and got elected to Congress on the strength of his anti-LGBTQ bigotry. While in Congress, he's been a driving force behind Trump's anti-trans agenda. Google gave his campaign money. intomore.com/impact/trump-r…
In the 2017-18 election cycle, Google donated $64,000 to the campaigns of senators who voted to confirm Justice Kavanaugh.
In 2018, Google decided to co-sponsor the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) alongside the NRA.
What strikes me about Google's political support for these causes is how *unnecessary* it is. Google runs one of the most sophisticated lobbying operations in DC. It could join IBM and Apple in disbanding its PAC altogether, and suffer no consequences. But they just don't care.
There's now 100K of you who work at Google. You can flex a little and make this all stop.
Google's public FEC filings include a list of every single employee who pays into this hot mess. You can contact fellow Googlers and make sure they know what their donations are going to fund. Many pay in via payroll deduction, and may have no idea. docquery.fec.gov/pdf/649/201905…
