A guard at Cuyahoga County Jail took Terrance Debose, who is mentally ill, to a small isolated room in a restraint chair, turned off his body camera, then repeatedly beat him in the face, before leaving him bleeding, strapped in the chair, for 2 hours. cleveland.com/metro/2019/06/…
A small number of Cuyahoga County jail guards & its warden have been indicted after horrific incidents of abuse at the jail were made public, although its reputation for violence has been known for a long time.
Videos of some of the incidents are just been turned over. I have written about some of those incidents - yesterday and over the course of the last few weeks.

Police body cameras are sold as a way to increase police accountability, but the truth is in jurisdictions where they're used, 93% of DA's offices have used body cam evidence to prosecute civilians and only 8.3% have used it to prosecute police. theappeal.org/body-cameras-a…
There are a number of issues at play here - the first one is the most obvious. Police turn their body cameras off or they conveniently malfunction when they brutalize and kill people. Because, why wouldn't they? So the evidence frequently does not exist.
The second, and what so many cops in the comments here are pretending not to understand, is PROSECUTORIAL DISCRETION. Prosecutors choose who to prosecute and what evidence to use. They rarely prosecute cops. They rarely use body camera evidence in prosecutions against them.

Jose Rivera died in NYC DOC custody last Sunday. Like Layleen Polanco, who died 2 days before, he was being held on Rikers Island, but he was transferred out the day he died.

The truth is he shouldn't have been on Rikers & it may have hastened his death.

Mr. Rivera struggled with homelessness and mental illness. He was also on parole for a low level drug offense from 2010. He stopped reporting to parole maybe 2 years ago. He was technically in violation of the terms of his parole, but they never came to arrest him.
That changed in April when he was admitted to hospital with a very serious, probably terminal, illness. Parole learned of his whereabouts and decided they would arrest him and they took him to Rikers Island. FROM HIS HOSPITAL BED.

He's the third man exonerated after being wrongly accused of the 1975 murder. Imprisoned after the testimony of a 13 year old witness who recanted his testimony last year, saying he was coerced by detectives at the time.
Kwame Ajamu, 56, was the last of three men exonerated in the 1975 robbery and murder of a Cleveland-area money order salesman. Ajamu was originally sentenced to death, but it was vacated because of a paperwork error. He later earned parole in 2003.

To enforce the "Thou Shall Not Help Deport" policy of Suffolk County, Rollins has ordered her employees to surveil courtrooms for agents of Homeland Security.

If an evil ICE agent is spotted doing his or her job, Suffolk DA employees are now required to call Rollins.
So you're an illegal alien heroin dealer arrested for driving without a license. ICE has been watching you for a bit and see you're going to be in a courthouse.

One of Rollins' narcs sees ICE and calls the boss.

What then? The Rollins Memo doesn't say...
... but we've seen other examples in Mass. where officers of the court actually HELP illegal aliens evade ICE by letting them slip out the back door.

Is this now the official policy of Suffolk County when it comes to dealing with illegal alien heroin dealers?

it is a busy day here in charlottesville! after ramos’ sentencing, there’s an albemarle county school board meeting. residents, parents, and activists are asking the school board to ban hate symbols, like the confederate flag, in county schools.
the albemarle county school board meeting is, inexplicably, being held in a very small conference room down the hall from the auditorium it’s been in every other time i’ve ever attended. the room is at capacity, with people standing, lining the walls.
members of the hate-free schools coalition of albemarle county are joined tonight by the hate-free schools coalition of orange county, nc.
after the events here last august, orange county, nc schools successfully banned hate symbols from their schools!
