Since WebKit is open source, it’s possible to do some code archaeology about NSError, at least for as long as IFError, the progenitor of NSError, was in WebKit. IFError’s first appearance is in the linked revision. 1/ trac.webkit.org/changeset/696/…
IF was a two-letter prefix for “Internet Foundation”, and for a time, it was the prefix we used for low-level networking classes in Safari/WebKit. 2/
Sometime later, the IF-prefixed classes related to URL loading moved to a short-lived WebFoundation framework, and the code took on a three-letter “Web” prefix. Eventually, many of these classes were integrated into Foundation itself, and WebFoundation went away. 3/

I gave a talk at @nsnorth a few days ago. I had a great time. It was a wonderful conference. Over the two days, I saw many other people speak, and many people asked me about my talk and how I approached putting it together. So, here are some notes and advice on presenting. 1/
@nsnorth Always match your words to your slide. If you want to tell a long story, click to a slide that says something like “Story Time”. Don’t leave a slide that says “Sales up 50% last quarter”, and then digress to talk about your dog. 2/
@nsnorth Keep your slides moving. In my @nsnorth talk, I spoke for an hour. I had 310 slides. That’s just about twelve slides per minute. Five seconds per slide. 3/

Look, don’t bother starting a complicated creative and technical project unless there’s a clear vision. Without a clear vision, it’s impossible to organize a large collective effort. Just stop.
The simplified iteration process I’m about to outline assumes that leadership is involved and engaged (rather than distant and detached), that individuals can collaborate productively with each other, and that everyone is committed to the vision. I know, that’s assuming a lot.

1. "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" by Michael Wolff. Yes, I hate-read this book in a matter of days. Problematically, Bannon comes across as an articulate, insightful source and not an arch nationalist parasite. Will Wolff's depiction be hagiography in the future?
2. "The Invention of the White Race, Volume 1: Racial Oppression and Social Control" and "The Invention of the White Race, Volume 2: The Origin of Racial Oppression in Anglo-America" by Theodore Allen. Who knew how important Bacon's Rebellion (1676) was to the history of racism?

Sometimes I remember to take a screenshot just before I start writing a new chapter. Here’s a chronological selection:
It’s funny (for me, at least) to notice how I learned I don’t need to be so precious about whitespace and visual noise…
…and having two side-by-side panes (one for writing, the other for notes) is easier than having them in one file and moving above and below.
