After the firestorm regarding @BethMooreLPM teaching in a Sunday (while affirming the complimentarian position that women are not elders), the article below bears a repost, and consideration.

houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…
One SBC figure affirmed the SBC position on pastors, but engaged in an activity (teaching on Sunday) where there is disagreement in the SBC camp.

Another pastor employed a man as a minister, knowing he'd admitted to sexually abusing at least one child, and accused by others.
Still another SBC leader (Augie Boto) defended the choice to employ a known abuser, prayed with the pastor being criticized, and apologized for the criticism.

ALL of this while the victim plead for years to be heard, and was either not answered, or told there was no issue.
Out of these three actions taken by SBC leaders, only one resulted in a firestorm that at times included questioning the salvation of the SBC figure in question.

Only one resulted in outrage. Only one resulted in posts and articles about the action being a critical issue.
Two leaders were extended prayer, comfort, support and allowed readily to "differ in conviction" in handling the event. Only one was given no such "grace."
Within the SBC, no one sounding the alarm about the event that sparked outrage, could point to a single place where the SBC has been actually asked to change their conviction, or where the actor in question even supports such a change.
No one found a church in the SBC where women are currently pastoring, because the SBC has clear requirements and means of removing such a church.

No one pointed to any concrete harm or damage a person incurred by the SBC figure's choice to teach under the authority of the pastor
At the same time, hundreds of reports have been found of SBC pastors covering up sexual assault and allowing pedophiles to continue in ministry and abuse.

HUNDREDS.

And the victims have names, faces, and lives forever damages.

There is yet no means of dealing with this.
The question is not whether you agree with SBC figure "A". The question is why "A" merited such a vitriolic, crisis level response, and SBC leaders "B" and "C" did not. Why one is viewed as a threat, and the other isn't really.
Why 2 leaders are extended plenty of "grace to differ" in whether admitted pedophiles should be pastors, and one who confesses the SBC position on pastoring, isn't allowed to differ on whether she can teach on Sunday under her pastor.
The level of response, the tone of the response, the crisis level of the response, speaks volumes. And we should listen, if we care at all about pedophiles in the pastorate. If you take the pastorate so seriously, deal with pedophiles and those who enable them.
