Sure, you can be a distinguished scholar, but you really need to make sure you adhere to all those categories of so-called merit as those who came before you. What? No! Race isn't a factor. We don't see race. It's just a coincidence that almost everyone in the club is a white guy

One of the reasons a certain faction of Republicans embrace the Trump presidency despite knowing his manifest unfitness and corruption (and saying as much before the election) is their belief they can manipulate him into doing their bidding, like a war with Iran in this case.
Lindsey Graham cozies up to Trump because he knows that Trump knows nothing, trusts only his "friends" (meaning loyalists) and has no knowledge of history or political compass by which to make decisions. So...he works him like this, in public, on his favorite medium.
We have a government without a chief executive who can make informed decisions who nonetheless holds all the power of a chief executive and is easily manipulated by anyone in his orbit be it a foreign dictator or a warmongering U.S. Senator. Incredibly dangerous times.

Consider the education of @LindseyGrahamSC's home state as exposed by a @postandcourier series as "minimally adequate" and systematically biased against black students. This is a direct legacy of slavery and Jim Crow segregation and it's happening today. postandcourier.com/news/minimally…
The reality is that @LindseyGrahamSC's state would benefit from a policy of reparations, but he only represents the portion of the electorate that wants him superglued to President Trump.

I spend a lot of my day job hours thinking about numerical data and am increasingly fascinated about the inferences we can draw from even single charts. Ex: Based on these ratings, is this a good book?
We could say that we can't tell because N=17 isn't a large sample, though I'm betting that in Amazon's data how a book looks after 15 responses isn't likely all that different than after 100.
The two most common answers are 5 stars and 1 star. This suggests at the least that if you read the book you won't be indifferent about it. There's a good chance you'll be moved to give the book 5 stars, but there's a non-trivial chance that the book will be truly terrible.

For some time now, members of local cartels and gangs have targeted Mexico’s vast network of pipelines — last year, they made more than 12,000 illegal taps, siphoning around 56,000 barrels of fuel a day.

1. "#Happiness" can scare #anxiety patients. In our heads, things are always going wrong. Fear of a "happy" moment undone is doubly painful.
