After the thread on evil, someone asked... But why pain? Why couldn't God have created all those things you listed without pain? Why not create achievement without pain? Free-will without pain. Compassion without pain, etc. It's a good q and here are some asnwers. THREAD
1 - The premise. The premise here is that pain is morally bad. Something a good God should never create. Remember, the whole reason we shifted from evil to pain was to avoid the subjective area of moral judgements. Saying pain is evil is returning back to that subjective ground.
So the premise itself that pain is bad and is something a good God would never create is invalid to begin with. You would have to then proceed to define what a "good" God is first.
2 - Let's examine it from a legal point of view. What makes us entitled to a pain-free existence? Some force out there put us (and the earth we rely on) into existence. That force owns us. It has the legal right to do what it wants with us.
3 - From the practical POV - the person currently in pain - discussing the morality of pain doesn't do anything; pain will exist either way. Let's just say all these ideas are subjective. If that's the case then I might as well adopt the one that helps me cope with my pain.
4 - From the believers' perspective, this questioning is merely academic or for the purpose of answering doubts or heresies, but not it's not a real question because we've already trusted Allah and don't question Him. "He is not asked about what He does; they are asked."
@HATzortzis Have you come upon this extension of the mas'ala? Please add or subtract as needed.
"Evil" is a moral judgement.
"Pain" is real and is something we can discuss.
"But pain is bad" is another moral judgement.
