An old friend of mine, a writer I used to work with, was driving with her husband and their two kids last week. They were hit by a drunk driver with a suspended license. My friend and her husband were seriously injured; their kids were killed. 2/
These were spectacular kids – smart, sweet, compassionate. They could have – should have – done so much more. And now my friend and her husband are... I can’t imagine. Of course I have imagined it – it’s the constant nightmare in the back of every parent’s mind. 3/
I’ll be spending this afternoon at a memorial service – heartbroken, bearing useless witness to incomprehensible grief.

Not in any original way, I know. Just thinking about two kids whose lives were taken away while people like @realDonaldTrump and @senatemajldr take the miracle and opportunity of life and piss on it every single day. 5/
Like I said: “Why do good people die when bad people live?” is a deeply boring question. I’m just feeling a particularly wide chasm between the good ones and the bad ones today.
