To reproduce that Vim vuln, you need to have 'modeline' set to true, then also 'modelines' set to a value greater than zero. To see what these values are currently set to, type a question mark after them, as in:
:set modeline?
:set modelines?
Edit your .vimrc file in order to set these defaults. You can edit it like any text file:
vi ~/.vimrc
This file a file in your home directory that starts with a period, which makes the file invisible to normal directory listings, so you have to type "ls -a" to see it.
Once you edit those settings, restart vi to make sure they are set correct (using the question mark technique above). Then exit vi and then restart it editing one of the PoC files. This works on Ubuntu, macOS, Microsoft WSL, and so on. Should also work for Mingw.
Now, if you are having trouble exiting 'vi' when doing this, I can't help you, because I haven't figured out that part myself. Does anybody have any tips on this?
