Is this a tacit admission by the DOJ & AG Barr that Rikers is not fit to house human beings? Because there are thousands of human beings currently caged there, who need immediate federal intervention too.
Hey @TheJusticeDept: I have a request for a Manafort Intervention for this client of mine who right now is jailed on Rikers Island because he cannot afford $3500. It's too inhumane for Manafort. It's too inhumane for him.
Every single time Paul Manafort trends on Twitter it means that once again, he has been treated with far more leniency and humanity in the American "justice" system than any one who is Black or Latino would ever be.

Just got that "I'm working night court tonight from 5pm-1am" public defender feeling. A mix of bummed, energized, ready, not ready, anticipatory exhaustion and rage.
Update: The feeling only intensifies as 5pm gets closer. Also learned that there are a “number of 16 year olds coming through” to be on the look out for tonight so I can inform our youth unit.

Say it with: 16. Year. Olds. Should. Not. Be. In. Adult. Court.
Harsh criminal laws that prosecutors then decide to apply harshly. Note: 14 and 15 year olds also come through adult court for certain crimes.

Yes, @KimKardashian “works with” the White House. And yes, she’s working within the system to change it very incrementally. And yes, more transformative change is needed. But I believe she cares, is committed, & she has freed people & changed peoples’ lives. Keep going Kim!
To clarify: I am NOT supporting *the White House.* Or saying their doing anything progressive. I am offering praise for Kim Kardashian and what she has been doing in and out of the White House to free people.

Let's be clear here, this is what is going on with Barr.
1. As a matter of law, Barr cannot provide Congress with the grand jury information that Democrats just held him in contempt for not turning over to them.
2. Barr can, however, petition the courts to allow release, and the House Democrats have requested he do so. He refused, and this adds to their reasons for the contempt vote. Important to note, he is not required by law to accommodate their request to petition the court.
3. Democrats additionally feel his no-show for their hearing last week adds to their contempt charge. However, they had demanded, against normal order, that he be questioned by two prosecutors. Je did not agree but offered to teach an amicable arrangement.

AG Barr has refused to appear before the House Judiciary Committee, citing issues with the use of an outside atty for questioning. His refusal, according to committee chairman @RepJerryNadler, means he might be held in contempt of congress. Hearing on deck for 9AM ET.
The chairman of this committee has what appears to be a bucket of KFC chicken placed before him., which, one can safely assume, will be used as a prop when Barr is called a chicken for not testifying.
This is an affront to delicious fried chicken everywhere! (I'm kidding, dont @ me)
