Important. Whole no-deal prep thing supposed to be about trying to get businesses ready. Expectation-reality gap when it comes to "continuity" narrative on EU trade arrangements w/other countries can be frustrating to manage with biz on rollover efforts /1
I understand Govt trying to highlight progress where made, but not being upfront about changes/highlighting where not going OK makes communicating detail to businesses trying to be prepared challenging. One biz saw Fox interview + thought fine until I showed where it wdnt be /2
This isn't me or business membership organisations being selfish, tho wd prefer to avoid those awkward situations where poss! In order to be prepared for ND, those affected by the rollover process need transparency, and comms/msging at the top of DIT arent always full of that /3
Nor is it about embarrassing Govt (tho some I know will use trade deal rollover process just to try and do that). But taking some hits from the usual suspects should be less of a concern for Liam Fox + DIT than making sure they are doing their bit to help get biz ready for ND /4
