It's starting to dawn on me that my parents are literally going to pretend I'm still the old me for the rest of my life unless I force the issue.

This despite the fact that I'm very publicly out so everybody in my home town knows.

I get these things take time, but geez.
Mom Call Me Emily Challenge 2019
In the back of my head, I have rules, like, "If they call me by my old name once on a call, that's fine," and "I have to give them six months, because it's a lot to take in."

But Christ. Emily is so much better than that other guy. How can they close themselves off from that?
But I guess they don't see me. They don't want to see me. They can't see me, because seeing me would mean admitting the entire philosophy they built their life around, a mean, grasping philosophy of self-congratulation, was wrong.
Where I grew up are stairs leading down into the Earth, root cellars left behind from houses long since gone, cavities left behind by the absent.

My parents huddle in the root cellar of my old life and call that their son. But I have a new house now, and I can see the sky.

I guess the two tweets preceding this one are what @ItsAmyWhipple means when she says I always undercut myself huh.
Anyway, I've been too focused on coming out publicly to realize how pissed off I am about this, so I guess here we are.
