The producers for the E. Jean Carroll interview made a conscious choice - explicitly noted by @Lawrence - not to broadcast the details of her attack. Imagine being asked to tell your story but only if you leave out the parts of what happened to you that make people uncomfortable.
Carroll explained her initial laughter at the onset of the assault. It’s so fucking relatable. That desperate attempt to make it into a joke, a misunderstanding, just playing around. A last ditch effort to find an out; to make a rapists commitment to your attack not quite final.
Hahahahahaha, oh you rascal, hahahahaha, knock it off you, hahahaha, please stop hurting me, hahaha, I’m serious, stop it, haha, please.
Carroll told 2 friends shortly after her assault. One has confirmed their conversation, the other has not responded for comment. Still, people will be more willing to believe that 2 or 3 women plotted a conspiracy spanning 3 decades than that an accused rapist is lying about it.
*an accused rapist with 15 prior accusations of sexual assault under his belt.

One who has sometimes defended himself by saying, as here, he never knew them, despite being a provable lie, for others, by suggesting that some women simply aren’t attractive enough for him to rape.
