Private prison and immigration detention company GEO Group also didn't want shareholders to vote on a resolution against incarcerating child asylum seekers. Said it would infringe on its “ordinary business operations.” So did CoreCivic. tennessean.com/story/news/201…
More on GEO Group, which has been notorious in immigration circles for many years. This is from 2018: dallasnews.com/news/politics/…
Again, from a year ago. Interesting in retrospect how all that screeching about "civility" really did derail the discussions we were beginning to have about how migrants, asylum seekers, & refugees are being treated, eh? Remember people getting really upset over the word "cage?"
Here's another story from a year ago. 6/28/2018
It would help if I also added the link. Here you go. houstonchronicle.com/business/artic…
When I covered last year's demonstrations at a San Ysidro CoreCivic facility, people were leaving toys for the kids out front. People were calling for help from inside.
GEO Group and CoreCivic are absolutely notorious for their lack of transparency and large donations and have been for years. They've just gotten a lot more power lately -- and with it, visibility. Now they need scrutiny.

Sorry. Otay Mesa, not San Ysidro. (I have too many things on my mind at the moment.)
I was an obscure, grubby little border reporter for many years before everything went insane. No one cared about my border work, which I often complained about with great enthusiasm, and I got very little recognition. Even so, I applied many times to do tours of facilities in my
region; I wanted very badly to talk to people inside. Other reporters had been allowed in. But I guess my big mouth outdid my relatively low profile. I was never let into one of their private facilities, not even once. They almost never even bothered to respond to my emails.
This is my roundabout way of saying great story @alexkotch
