A dreadful, cynical, partisan decision, Gorsuch batting for Garland. Did the Constitution really contemplate Big Data ruthlessly micro-carving maps to completely ossify 80-90% of House and state legislative districts and lock in a right-wing majority indefinitely? 1/
Here's how it goes: 1) You take control of the voting equipment industry; 2) You exploit (or manufacture) a crisis in vote-counting (2000) to get virtually all votes counted on the computers you produce & program going forward; 3) You exploit that control to rig key elections; 2/
4) By virtue of hundreds of such rigged down-ballot elections, you take control of statehouses across the country; 5) By virtue of other rigged elections, you take control of the White House and US Senate; 3/
6) You use that control in a simple two-step to block Merrick Garland and elevate Gorsuch & Kavanaugh, preserving your perpetual 5-4 SCOTUS majority (you also fill the lower courts with far-right judges); 7) You rely on that 5-4 majority to lock in your political control by...4/
8) handing down reliably cynical and partisan decisions such as today's on gerrymandering; 9) You get Gorsuch and/or Kavanaugh to side with the "liberal" wing occasionally on "throwaway" cases with little POLITICAL impact to preserve the Court's "legitimacy." 5/
