As expected, rhetoric in the Tory leadership contest is skewing harder and harder. Before the end of it, we can expect one or other candidate to say "I'll spit in the eye of business owners as I personally chain and padlock their premises shut."

This (by LibDem MEPs entering the European Parliament) crosses a professionalism line. We can't deride the other side and give a totally free pass to ours, otherwise we lose all credibility. Whoever advised them needs to have a hard look in the mirror.
And this is why we can't allow double standards...
But with their tshirt stunt, the LibDems have taken away the shame of the Brexit Party turning their backs during the EU anthem. Because they've both done "bad things" by European Parliament standards. We didn't have to give the BP that free kick at goal.

Brexit is happening because of the gap between what people think MPs are elected to do, and what they're really elected to do - and because MPs are too afraid of them to correct their misconception.

People think MPs are elected to do their bidding, implement what they decide.
In reality, MPs are elected to do what is in the best interests of their constituents, and of the country as a whole. They are also meant to take every decision based on merit. All this is in black and white in their Code of Conduct...

Now happily most of the time what's best for the people happens to coincide with what the people want. So it's easy to see why they've fallen into the trap of thinking of MPs as their meat-puppets in Westminster.

The bailout of the banks in the UK during the global financial crisis is hugely misunderstood (partly because people keep misrepresenting it, as Jeremy Hunt did today).

The UK Government didn't simply gift the banks money, it provided loan guarantees, and bought failing banks.
You can think of those loan guarantees like a family member or friend stepping in to guarantee your mortgage so that your house doesn't get repossessed. Doesn't mean they will pay all the mortgage, but they're liable to pay if you can't.
And of course when the government took over RBS and Lloyds, that wasn't a gift either. It got the banks in return. And since the crisis it has sold its shares, and got much of the money back.

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM
