The only way to survive the current insanity is to stick to real standards. Do you think:

* Maduro is bad? He remains bad if Trump hates him.

* Free speech is good? It remains good if the alt-right agrees.

* The Ross flag is fine? It remains fine after a few extremists fly it.
Seriously: Do we really want to give seven disgusting Nazis at Charlottesville the power to determine the meaning of a centuries-old American symbol?

How does that make any moral or strategic sense?!
(And before people go out of their way to misconstrue what I just said: Yup, I'm aware there were, sadly, more than seven Nazis at Charlottesville. But not more than seven who flew the Ross flag so far as we can tell.)

Trump was a genuine celebrity before entering politics. Williamson was known by a small number of aficionados.
2)
Trump was leading the GOP field with around 20% of the vote at this point in the primaries.

Williamson polls below 1%.

It doesn’t have to be like that. So here are my six rules for (panel) life.

1) Don’t Put More than Four People Onstage

I know you’re under pressure from marketing. I know you need to feature the sponsor. I know you don’t want to axe the one speaker with something to say.

But if you have over three panelists, there won't be a real conversation. Don’t.
2) Keep Introductions to a Minimum

Don't have someone introduce someone who introduces someone else. And never take more than 20 seconds for any single intro.

Much of the audience will already know who’s onstage. And everyone else can consult the program, or the internet.

A Tip for Writers:

Edits are painful. Even when they're good, it's tempting to quibble with every change.

That's why I now select "No Markup" when looking at edits. Instead of focussing on changes, it allows me to assess the flow of the new version.

Keeps my ego in check.
And yes, I guess it takes some, um, ego to give other other writers tips.

So let me put it this way: I've found this change in my working habits to be very helpful and productive, so wanted to share in case you do, too!
Also, re-reading my original tweet, I now realize there's a dangling modifier in the penultimate sentence.

I'm at a loss at how it is "defamation" to imply that somebody might be alt-right, when they freely associate with alt-right and extremist figures. The "cease-and-desist" gave me less than 72 hours to cough up $2000 and a retraction if I want to prevent a lawsuit.
Here's my response. There's no way to know what is in his heart. I'm willing to issue a retraction if he publicly distances himself from Gavin McInnes's racism.
