MEGATHREAD:

As the Trump admin detains immigrants and children in squalid conditions, hundreds of companies and nonprofits are making money by contracting with ICE, CPB, and HHS for detention, transportation, surveillance, and other services.

Sludge has the receipts.
The government’s deportation force, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), contracts with hundreds of for-profit and nonprofit corporations. Sludge mapped out the contractors so you can see which ones are near you. readsludge.com/2018/07/06/who…
Private prison company and big political donor GEO Group is the largest ICE contractor, with more than $470 million worth of ongoing contracts as of July 5, 2018.
Other top ICE contractors include:

-Maxim Healthcare Services
-Deloitte
-Booz Allen Hamilton
-Dev Technology Group
-Global Precision Systems
-Nana Regional Corp.
-Palantir
-CACI International
Some ICE contractors face abuse allegations. Private security contractor MVM (second largest ICE contractor) is facing a sexual harassment lawsuit and paid a fine in 2017 for racial and religious discrimination against a Muslim security guard.

Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) detains immigrant children at its facilities near the Mexico border. Hundreds of children have been denied showers, oral hygiene, and mattresses in its facilities.

Universities including Columbia University, University of Southern California, and Utah State University received payments from CPB. Major consumer companies including Microsoft, Comcast and AT&T have been profiting from CBP.
CBP’s vedor purchases increased under Obama, but began to skyrocket in 2018 under the Trump administration.
Detention of “unaccompanied alien children” is handled by HHS in partnership with 61 NGOs, mainly nonprofits. The organizations detaining the kids have collectively earned $3.8 billion from HHS contracts since 2018. readsludge.com/2019/07/03/the…
The biggest recipients include:

-Southwest Key Programs ($1.5 billion)
-Cayuga Home for Children ($114 million)
-MVM ($213 million)
-Comprehensive Health Services ($292 million), a subsidiary of the company that counts former Trump DHS Sec. John Kelly as a board member.
Sludge mapped these organizations so you can see where they are headquartered:
Southwest Key Programs, the biggest child detention vendor with nearly $1.5B in grants, was forced to close a shelter last year because staffers were accused of physically abusing kids, and it had to close two more after it failed to prove its employees had background checks.
Southwest Key is a nonprofit, and its President and CEO Juan Sanchez earned $1,484,040 in total compensation in 2017, the most recent year such information is available.
Sanchez is not the only executive of a child detention vendor that receives a big salary:
