An update on the articles of impeachment against Trump introduced by Rep. Lacy Clay:
HR 13, impeachment, has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. That means it's now up to the committee Chair, @RepJerryNadler, whether it goes anywhere. 1/

Nadler is known to favor impeachment personally, but is reportedly holding off A-in deference to Pelosi, who opposes impeachment, and B-get a better idea how much support there is among D's for going forward. 2/

According to the latest nose count by the NY Times, 80 D Reps openly favor impeachment. But FiveThirtyEight.com reports a majority of House D's probably favor impeachment, keeping quiet for fear of getting sideways w/Pelosi. That's what Nadler's dealing with. 3/

Any vote by House Judiciary would be preceeeded by lengthy, public hearings, featuring a parade of witnesses and Trumpista committee members like Jim Jordan, Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, and Doug Collins throwing feces on the walls. Only then would there be a committee vote. 4/

Articles of Impeachment would then be sent to the full House. An impeach Trump resolution last made it to the full House for a vote was in Jan, 2018, when TX Rep. Al Green bypassed committee hearings, & called for a full House vote by invoking a Point of Personal Privilege. 5/

Green's articles of impeachment were then defeated by a vote of 355 to 66. That was 19 months ago. Does the evidence for obstruction detailed in Vol. II of the Mueller Report provide a stronger case? Definitely. But Rep. Nadler is still doing the arithmetic. 6/
