This is a violent & dangerous attack on a sitting Congresswoman because of who she is and what she stands for.

It’s white nationalism in action.

@IlhanMN won’t back down. And we must loudly have her back and keep supporting the rights & leadership of immigrants in this country.
Last night, Tucker Carlson launched a racist attack on @IlhanMN saying that she “is a living fire alarm.”

80 years ago today, the US turned away the MS St. Louis, a ship full of German Jews escaping the Nazi regime.

Every person on the ship was sent back. 254 of them were murdered in the Holocaust.
That same year, in 1939, Congress voted down a bill to take in 20,000 Jewish refugee children.

Instead of welcoming refugees seeking asylum, the American government refused to accept them, claiming they would pose a security risk & put American citizens in danger.
The parallels to today are clear & horrifying. The Trump administration’s anti-immigrant, anti-refugee policies — detaining asylum seekers, separating children from families, banning Muslims, dehumanization — come from the same fear & hatred Jews on the St. Louis faced in 1939.

This is also a moment when we must call on all Americans of conscience to see with clear eyes that the political violence targeting our communities, driven by antisemitism and racism, has become normalized in our social and political life.

The walls are so lumpy and bumpy and covered in old paper, gloss paint, plaster patching and woodchip. To tile this it all needs to come off and the bricks boarded over. Thanks to @urchaidh for the bolsters, I made a start
Say what you like about Victorian builders but their bricks (unfrogged and look hand made) and their bricklaying are incredibly slapdash. It needs that 1.5-2" of thick lime and horsehair over it just to flatten the surface
