He is basically talking about "power" and how it is important to always be in power and in control.
He's using a poker analogy (I think) too.
The CTO is fighting back. "I'm doing my best". The team apparently is asking for pay rises.
The mentor (CEO) is now saying "I'm listening" while LOOKING AT HIS PHONE 😯
The interaction here is atrocious.
The mentor body language is dismissive, not engaged, obviously thinking about something else.
He cut him off saying "I know you think I hate talking tech, I love this stuff but..."
"You know when we had a release and we had a bank holiday and that pushed work back a day"
"As long as the team realise the priority is to finish work"
The CTO isn't able to fight this. The entitlement is oozing out of the mentor.
Is he a CEO? VC?
It's entirely possible that there are issues.
The CTO may not be good enough and the team may but be.
The CTO in my view isn't business aware enough.
But the CEO/mentor/VC is simply bringing up crap
But he's not going to because he's not got the experience to find another CTO
The lack of relationship here is awful. I'd never invest in this team.
They cannot have an expectation of privacy
