This is not to say that it's a mistake to have pushed for this, or that doing so "plays into Trump's hands". He's a pretty undiscerning opportunist. He doesn't want to have his allies picked off for their misdeeds (bad precedent for him!) but he'll use it when it happens.
Yes! And the longer this goes on, the worse and worse the people who are still willing to become a part of it at the highest levels must be. No one is joining the cabinet with any illusion of "I can restrain him for the good of America." anymore.
