Alright Seattle: Did you Drop! Cover! & Hold on! for your M4.6 today?

If you felt it, please fill out your shake reports: earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ev…

Take this as your reminder to secure bookcases, stick down loose objects, update your kits & plans, and drill your Drops! or Locks!
Epicentres for M4.6 main & M3.5 aftershock were pretty much RIGHT under cities.

This is good as they’re on the smaller, shallower splinter faults (not our dear monster Cascadia). But, uh, not so fun as a lot of people live close enough to feel quick moderate shaking. Shakemap of a small coastal earthquakeShakemap of an even smaller coastal earthquake
Q: What happens now?

A: Most likely a handful of M3-ish aftershocks (fidgety puppies) & more M1-2 that you won’t feel.

Small chance this is a forequake (hi Ridgecrest), but as this was a crustal quake so it’d be beyond weird to go into a nightmare sequence off this wee lil.
If it were me living nearby?

I’d take this as incentive to go on a home hazards hunt & lead an office quake drill. Take the practice nature gave you.
Q: Uh, I’m just joining in & missed all prior quake threads. Drops or Locks?

A: If you have limited mobility and can’t Drop! during an earthquake, then Lock! your mobility device in place and protect your head & neck as best as you can. Infographic on how to shelter during earthquakes with assorted mobility devices
