Francois Villeroy de Galhau “we pay attention to market signals but we must not be market dependent. that includes not being overly sensitive to market based measures of inflation expectations”
Very grim diagnostic of the current state of global cooperation by @arvindsubraman Hard to disagree.
Anne Krueger scathing (and showing brilliant mastery of details) on how recent US trade policy is hurting US interests. “Rest of the world has to be willing to let the US stew in its own juice until it discovers what breaking trade deals does.”
@MalmstromEU “We have to realise #WTO is in deep crisis. If the Appellate Body collapses in December [when one of 3 remaining members is due to step down] we have no enforcement mechanism”.
Mark Carney “Financial policy makers will not drive the transition” [to a low carbon economy]. But we can make sure the financial system is ready for this transition and we can amplify the effects of good policies.” Active back seat driving then?
A great point by Singapore’s Tharman Shanmugaratnam: the cause of surging inequality and #populism isn’t exposure to technology and #globalisation shocks. Look at Sweden and Singapore. They’re fine. It’s inadequate domestic social policies.
