Please spare a thought for the amount of extra labor women have to do in the workplace to make sure other women don’t have to interact with male predators.
Think of women supervisors who have to take on more work because an intern doesn’t feel comfortable around some guy who she was supposed to be reporting to.
Think of women professors who have to do extra advising because their male counterparts make women students feel unsafe alone with them.
Think of teachers who have to stay late in school to make sure women students don’t have to be alone with the creepy principal.
Think of nurses who miss their lunch breaks because they can’t leave someone alone with Dr Creepy Comments
And then they tell us we don’t deserve equal pay. They are right - we deserve more. All the twisting and shrinking and expanding and work we have to do to make unsafe spaces bearable.
Think of all the promotions women give up because they don’t want to have to work closely with The General Manager of Standing Too Close
And then people write books about how women lack ambition but what is ambition to a body tired of violation?
And the other thing about this is because most men “can’t tell” when their colleagues are creepy and/or they don’t believe women; the job of making workplaces manageable is done entirely by women.
“You just have to #leanin

Lean in to what? The guy staring down your shirt?

Jesus Christ.
