One of the early, well recorded plunders of India, is that by Muhmud of Ghazni. Interestingly, this detailed record of the plunder is by the official chronicler of the plunderer himself. 
Muhmud of Ghazni invaded India 17 times between 1001 CE and 1024 CE and carried back as enormous booty, 6.5 tons of Gold and 50000 war prisoners, who were sold as slaves in his country.
Al-Beruni writes in detail about Mathura and its riches, looted by the Sultan of Ghazni.
In this series of attacks from the Northwest, the last to ransack India, was Nadir Shah of Persia, in 1739. His troops unleashed a 57 day, general massacre on Delhi, then probably the most prosperous city of the world.
They took back as spoils of war, treasures assessed at Rupees 70 Crores of those days’ value, along with priceless artefacts such as the Peacock throne & the Kohinoor Diamond, currently on exhibit at the Tower of London.
