good evening fine people. tis time for a thread**

*stretches*
*jogs in place*
*does jumping jacks*

**inspired by of the president pulling yet another 'we've always been at war with Eurasia' stunt by trying to distance himself from his supporters yelling 'send her back'
the subject of tonight's thread: toxic masculinity

title: Men who are Never Wrong and Can't Be Criticized [i.e. time for the media to have a Come to Jesus Moment about the current president]

[TW for mention of sexual assault, patterns of emotional abuse]
i have spent my entire life around men who are Never Wrong and Can't Be Criticized.
most prevalently in family members and church leaders.

this behavior is so normalized for me that I instantly recognized it within 45 from the start.
1/20
unsurprisingly, these types of men thrive the most in environments where they're surrounded by enablers.

having said that, in my experience a lot of these types of men, esp those who are high profile tend to learn to disguise this behavior [much like other types of abusers]
2/20
Never Wrong

when i talk about this behavior regarding the president, it's important to look beyond his instinct to lie
i'm talking about the kind of person who is literally incapable of admitting he's wrong.
about ANYTHING.
again, many of you are aware but let's unpack.
3/20
if Distorting A Narrative Into One That Results In Me Being Right were a competitive sport?

men who are Never Wrong would win the gold medal.

and for those who win silver or bronze, well that doesn't count, obviously the game was rigged
4/20
example: 45's first State of the Union
he was shouting out one of his invited guests and got the guy's name wrong.
rather than admit to the mistake, he immediately said the right name, then claimed this man went by both names.
5/20
y'all.
the president LITERALLY GAVE A DUDE A WHOLE ASS NEW NAME TO AVOID LOOKING LIKE HE MADE A MISTAKE.

sit with that a minute.

SIT WITH IT.

6/20
generally, the concept of accountability for one's actions simply doesn’t exist for men who are Never Wrong, but trust and believe it exists for EVERYONE ELSE.
7/20
when 45 was caught on tape bragging about sexual assault, what was his response?

'well what about the sexual assault accusations against my opponent's husband?

why don't we talk about that?'
8/20
to put it biblically:
“Look at the splinter of wood in my neighbor’s eye and ignore the one in my own!”
9/20
[side note: i'm not mentioning these accusations in order to diminish their importance, but simply to point out a pattern of behavior]
Can't Be Criticized: the sassy sidekick of Never Wrong

10/20
criticism involves pointing out an error or mistake, but men who are Never Wrong ALWAYS do the right thing,
therefore your criticism is invalid.

because they never do anything that merits criticism. you see.

11/20
this brings us back to...the racist chant about Rep. Omar.
public outrage was strong enough for 45 to decide chanting 'send her back' was, indeed, wrong.
BUT [and i cannot stress this enough] HE was not wrong.
HE tried to stop it.
because it was wrong.
criticism=invalid

12/20
IN FACT, $5 says that by next week, the president will completely deny the chant ever happened and accuse the media of lying.

'but Lola!' you might say 'that's preposterous!'

13/20
and finally: Men who are Never Wrong and Can't Be Criticized and the minions who enable them.

prime example: that dumpster fire train wreck post-inauguration press conference that was our official introduction to Sean 'THE LARGEST INAUGURATION CROWD PERIOD' Spicer

14/20
small crowd size at the inauguration? the media HAD to be lying.
cause you know, that's what they do!
and....they lie about other stuff too!
- what other stuff
just...stuff STOP TRYING TO SMEAR MY BOSS

15/20
remember how bonkers that press conference got?
Sean the Spicer took out the Derailing Machine, cranked it up to 100, and repeated variations of:
'you people pointing out accurate things are the villain, my boss is the victim'

-wait, what

YOU'RE THE VILLAIN
NEXT QUESTION

16/20
the worst part: the increasingly erratic behavior 45 is displaying is, of course, in direct response to the fact that he continues to lose control over the narrative.

also...you know, all the CRITICISM.
and people telling him that he's WRONG.

and it will only get worse.

17/20
what irks me to my core (and inspired this thread) is the number of media folks still waiting for 45 to MAGICALLY one day take responsibility for even the slightest error.

please please PLEASE hear me when i tell you:
he never will.
never.
ever.
Full Stop.

18/20
- but Lola, people can change
FAM.
a man who spent the last 70 years doing whatever TF he wanted is gonna wake up one day and decide accountability applies to HIM?

take it from someone who has 40 years of personal experience w/men like this:
he ain't never gonna change.

19/20
to sum up and in conclusion:

the president at his core is a man who is Never Wrong and Can't Be Criticized.

it's past time for the media to have a Come to Jesus Moment and understand that [to paraphrase Chris Rock] that tiger will always go tiger.

the end.

20/20
that thread was a lot. here are some bunnies.
