In a confusing three-page cover letter attached to the records, DHS said its final response was the result of "a collaboration of thirteen analysis worked on domestic terrorism threats" — and that it could neither confirm nor deny whether any records existed.
Attached to that denial was an official report about "suspected environmental rights extremists" attempting to stop construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Gorka — who previously served as a policy adviser at DHS — reportedly advised the department to cut funding for the Countering Violent Extremism program, including grants for a group combating neo-Nazism and for a Muslim-American group working on violence prevention.
Gorka has shared anti-Muslim and conspiracy-driven stances on far-right websites, and she and her husband, former White House aide Sebastian Gorka, have ties to anti-immigrant groups. We need to know the extent of outside influences on DHS policy.

That’s especially true in Cummings’s predominantly black district, which covers more than half of Baltimore city. He has represented that district since 1996 — and before that his city district in the Maryland state house for 13 years — with nothing but misery to show for it.
