Open the flood gates.
1) "Set the World On Fire (Lie of Lies)" Symphony X, from "Paradise Lost" (2007)
Heady stuff, Inspired by John Milton's epic poem, first published in 1667. The entire album is a "must."
"Spitting on the shrine, drink the poison wine
Leave a life in ruins, tattered and torn
Completely interfaced to a God without a Face
In his image of darkness, I'm reborn"
After leaving Mr. Big to pursue a solo career, guitar uberchopsmeister Paul Gilbert got his first band, Racer X, back together to record 3 "metal" albums ... for the Japan market. Well worth the yen.
Second of 2 albums Gilbert did with drum God Marco Minnemann. After recording this one, they only did 1 live gig, at the Viper Room, W. Hollywood (in space suits)! I flew to LA to be there.
"Right here we stoned the prophets
Built idols out of mud
Right here we fed the lions
Christian flesh and Christian blood
Down here is where we hung ya
Upon an ugly cross ... "
"Well, I live at the Seven Eleven
Well, I'm tryin' to play this guitar
Well, I'm learning "Stairway to Heaven"
Cuz Heaven's where You are"
A Swedish band gets it!
"This endless hole I seem to be stuck within
The absence of light, is so full of sin
And I have lost just about everything
No more life, let the loneliness begin"
"Can't feel my faith can't recall my crime
Think I sealed my fate along the way
I may've lost my mind
I guess we're all damaged in our own way
Alone in our own way
Distant headlights desolate highway'
Japan-only bonus track (?!) from this incomparable old-school collaboration 'tween Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) & Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple/Black Country Communion).
If Jesus can save Blackie Lawless, he can save ANYONE!
"Is there no hope for me?
Oh, somewhere you'll show for me?
I'm holding on believing there's a reason I can find
Oh Lord remember me, take me up tonight"
