1/ Ken Roth is lying. America pulled out of the UN Human Rights Council (members include China, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, and other champions), and it's absolutely not sending an ambassador to that body.

Roth is a serial liar about the UNHRC. Let's take a look.
2/ On July 11, Roth said the UNHRC "condemned Venezuela." Lie. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/…

I was at the Sept. 2018 negotiations & urged a clear condemnation of Maduro. Instead, they refused to criticize the regime. "Condemn" appears nowhere in the resolution.

3/ In that same op-ed, Ken Roth says the UNHRC is "strong." Lie.
The truth is that the UNHRC gives the worst dictators a free pass.

5/ Roth's most embarrassing UNHRC lie:

TOP: Ken Roth praises UNHRC for passing an "important resolution" on Sudan.

BOTTOM: Ken Roth's UN rep denounces the very same text for being "completely disconnected from reality."

The resolution showered praise on the al-Bashir regime:
6/ The UNHRC resolution on Sudan—praised by Ken Roth—was in fact co-sponsored by the regime itself.

The text:
• "Welcomes the humanitarian policies of Sudan"
• "Welcomes the positive and constructive engagement of Sudan"
• "Welcomes the hosting by Sudan of peace negotiations"

I just took the floor at the United Nations to ask why their Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women decided this year to investigate #Canada.

My speech: "Madam Rapporteur, we congratulate you on the 25th anniversary of this UN mandate, which has the significant power..."

This year, out of all the countries in the world, you chose to investigate Canada. The previous year, it was Australia...."

In 2005, notorious UNHRC official Jean Ziegler said Israel was making Gaza a "concentration camp."

When I protested, he claimed he meant other camps, not the Nazis.

But UN rights chief Arbour slammed him for "evoking Nazi Germany."

So did 70 Congressmen incl. @RepJerryNadler.
Here's the internal UN draft of the letter I received from UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour, saying that Jean Ziegler's references to concentration camps were “evocative of Nazi Germany, and in my view, inflammatory.”

We've just released the final report by @Alston_UNSR, the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme #poverty, on his visit to the #UK. The report is available here: undocs.org/A/HRC/41/39/Ad…. A few key takeaways:
Some have asked me why a UN expert on #poverty would visit the #UK. Unfortunately, although the UK is the world’s 5th largest economy, 14 million are in poverty, child poverty is rising & predicted to reach 40% by 2021, homelessness is up 60%, and food bank use has skyrocketed.
To understand #poverty in the #UK, you have to look at the massive disinvestment in social support since 2010: the end of a centralized social fund, changes to the ways benefits are capped & calculated that substantially reduce their value, the decimation of civil legal aid, etc.

Remember, its not what elites (esp politicians and govt officials) simply say that is a predictor of their character and what they will do.

👉🏼 It’s how they have acted in the past that is the best predictor of what they will do in the future.
Elites (especially certain politicians and govt officials) are increasingly hypocritically pointing fingers, and criticising the unethical behaviour of competitors or critics 👉🏼while implicitly denying their own equally (or worse) dastardly deeds.

Why did the US pull out?
