(1/9) Why is "TERF" such a ridiculous slur? Two reasons.
1. Because it makes biological women the bad guy for wanting their own spaces, which is not an unreasonable request. Any woman who's had to deal with male predatory behavior understands this.

(2/9) 2. And because it implies that I single out transpeople. I don't. I don't want straight men in women's spaces either.
(3/9) I was raised to see all people as made in God's image and therefore worthy of respect and dignity. I want fairness, justice, and safety for transpeople, but not at the expense of erasing women's spaces, women's sports, and the uniqueness of womanhood.
(4/9) There is no "cis" because there are no subsets of womanhood. It's not a costume. It's not an accumulation of 1950s gender stereotypes. Identifying as something is not the same as being something.
(5/9) Yet that doesn't mean I see transpeople as something less. I've worked with people suffering from dysphoria (who, incidentally, are not the same as the look-at-me narcissists who sadly have become the face of the movement & make life even harder for those with dysphoria).
(6/9) I understand the challenges transpeople face, and that throwing them back into spaces where they feel unsafe and unwelcome isn't a solution.
(7/9) But pretending that biological sex is an arbitrary method of segregation puts both women and transpeople at risk, as it removes any barriers against predators who can simply self-ID and invade at will.
(8/9) We can come up with common-sense solutions that protect transpeople while not erasing biological sex and women's rights. It doesn't have to be an either-or. It can be a both-and.
(9/9) Anyone who says otherwise isn’t putting trans rights or women’s rights first, but pushing an agenda that will harm both in the long run.
P.S. Please don't take anything I've said as hatred of men, either. I'm well aware of the angry lesbian feminist stereotype. I love guys and actually have more male than female friends. I'm just not romantically attracted to them.
