Now that #MuellerHearings have ended, a key figure from his report, Felix Sater, has a phone conference coming up in a lawsuit alleging he laundered money through Trump properties.

I will be listening to that conference for @CourthouseNews.

Background: courthousenews.com/sater-had-laun…
@CourthouseNews The phone conference is scheduled to begin in roughly 10 minutes.
@CourthouseNews U.S. Magistrate Judge Katharine Parker convenes the telephone conference.

Sater's attorney Jill Levi from the firm Todd & Levi is on the line.

We're about to begin.
@CourthouseNews Attorneys Craig A. Wenner and Matthew Schwartz representing the bank and city of Almaty also on the line.
@CourthouseNews Sater's attorney Levi wants to stay discovery because of a pending arbitration involving Sater's company Litco.
@CourthouseNews Judge Parker presses Levi: Why would the [Federal Arbitration Act] stay provision by applicable here?

"Your client is not moving to compel arbitration," she said.
@CourthouseNews Levi said that discovery could be extensive, with "25 witnesses on the initial go-around."
@CourthouseNews Matthew Schwartz, on behalf of Almaty and BTA, is up and argues that Sater is not a party to the arbitration and isn't released from these claims by this arbitration.
@CourthouseNews Lots of back-and-forth over the applicability of the arbitration.

The rest is routine scheduling matters on motions to dismiss and stay.
@CourthouseNews Parker: My position is that I am not granting a stay at this time.

She'll allow them to brief the matter, but for now, "there is no stay."
@CourthouseNews That's it.

Upshot: The magistrate denied the stay requested by Sater's attorneys, for now, setting up a briefing schedule for motions to dismiss and revisit the issue of a stay in light of the arbitration.
