ok so why do so many british dads think they’d be so good at being in a war? they’re obsessed with it (thread)
it all seems to stem with the fact that some of them were born not long after ww2 and dealt with *their* ptsd dads so they may as well have fought in it themselves
but they didn’t fight in it and the vast majority of them were never even close to being in the army, national service was scrapped in the 50s and our professional military is tiny
the real obsession seems to be that they would be better at being in a war than “millennials” because they’re not glued to their smartphones or “obsessed with genders” or whatever
which ignores the fact that
a) clearly they fucking are glued to their smartphones of we wouldn’t be reading this nonsense
b) they are massive fucking babies who lived through the best times to live in britain (high wages, low housing costs, plentiful state benefits) and now spend all their time crying and screaming about how young people don’t like them. yes, sas material mate, isis are terrified.
c) some of the most motivated people i know are millennials - they’re dealing with a society which is frankly collapsing around them along with the planet and still engaging politically and finding ways to make careers for themselves
which for the most part is more than any of these twats ever did with their golden handshake, dead men’s shoes columns writing nonsense in national newspapers for £200k a year
millennials don’t, for the most part, want to fight in any wars because wars are fucking stupid and, crucially, a distraction from the real existential threat we face: climate change
but if there is any generation actually committed to fighting fascism as we did in ww2, it isn’t a bunch of armchair dads who went paint balling once, it’s politically engaged young people and that’s what actually infuriates them, that they’re irrelevant in the extreme.
