These are people protesting in Russia. They are demanding free and fair elections.

Russia is a “guided democracy”. Which means the electorate goes through the motions of voting, but the elections are decided long before the public votes.
Once an autocracy is in power, the ruling class controls the rules, laws, military and law enforcement. Putin has been in power for close to 20 years. The Russian constitution states he can not run for president again. He plans to change the constitution.
Xi in China changed the rules. He is now the supreme leader for life, because he changed the rules and the law.

Trump opines about changing the constitution to allow him to serve more than two terms.

Autocrats don’t believe in democracy. They allow voting, but rig the votes.
Stephen Harper acted like an autocrat while in office. He gerrymandered ridings, used voter suppression, disenfranchised voters, changed the Elections Act in his favour, & his party committed several verified voting crimes. Robo calls. Remember those? There’s more.
Harper manipulated the laws of Canada to his advantage. Harper prevented his first minority govt from losing power by manipulating the law to prorogue parliament so a vote of non-confidence could not be made. It had never been done before. Precedent setting.
He also broke his own fixed date election law to call an early election. He silenced dissenters within govt and refused to answer to the press, removing any opportunity for accountability to the public. This is why voters did not elect his govt to majority in 2015 fed elections.
Harper ignored FN and actively sought to remove treaty rights. Many are unaware, but he altered the focus of RCMP, quietly & internally, from public safety to law enforcement. This allows for the monitoring of FN who oppose the conservative natural resource development agenda.
Harper changed national surveillance laws, allowing for intelligence gathering on not only terrorism suspects, but on individuals who opposed his agenda. FN & environmentalists were the primary targets. This also meant identifying political supporters & dissenters generally.
Harper targeted information. He sought to control the narrative. That’s what autocrats do. He tried, but couldn’t manipulate the law to allow for Sun Cable News to obtain a validating broadcast licence and only offer propaganda. So state propaganda was limited to the internet.
That’s what the role of Rebel Media became. To propagate disinformation.

That was several years ago. Harper lost the 2015 election. Why, because many in the nation united to stop CPC autocratic tendencies.

So what’s changed?

The proliferation of far right propaganda outlets.
There is the Rebel, but in the 4 years since CPC lost the majority, several more indoctrination & libertarian propaganda internet sites have started offering disinformation & making false accusations. So prolific it’s difficult to count how many they are.
CPC has evolved from Social Media propaganda to micro targeting through Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and other internet based information exchanges.

Also, severely hampered by foreign ownership & influence, Canadian MSM has replaced investigative journalism with con shills.
Most notice the change in quality of journalism. It isn’t the ability of journalists. It’s the lack of journalists. How many MSM news outlets have been downsized severely? All of them. They no longer have the resources to speak truth to power through investigative journalism.
Journalists have had to take to the internet to offer independent news. But remember, the internet isn’t regulated, at all. So now there is a mix of trusted sources being overwhelmed by hired propagandists. And the public is left to determine which is which.
There are no standards. No rules, no laws that govern what can be said or professed. Legitimate journalists like Anna Maria Tremonti and Charles Adler, are now competing with Keean Bexte, Faith Goldy, and Vivian Krause for legitimacy and readers.
News informing the public has been damaged in Canada. The media is often the first target of autocrats. Control the narrative and you control the people.

Harper ensured his political party changed the laws and rules of information exchange. That’s what autocrats do.
CPC hasn’t changed ideology, just installed a new face to lead the party. Allegations of vote irregularities during Scheer’s CPC leader election confirm the party hasn’t changed significantly. The ideologues are in firm control of the party dogma.
What’s changed is access to trusted information about politicians.

The first thing all dictators do is attack the media and install a propaganda machine to control the narrative. That’s been done.
To demonstrate how effective control of the narrative is, examine the communication strategies of provincial leaders such as Ford, Kenney, Pallister, Moe, & Legault.

They ignore and silence dissent. On line news has displaced valid journalism.
The only narrative allowed to be propagated and amplified is partisan and conservative.

We believe we dodged a bullet by voting out Harper. But we temporarily delayed the autocratic rule of guided democracy, while the mechanisms to forever change Canada were put to work.
The second thing dictators do to maintain power is commence massive indoctrination campaigns of the public to limit dissent and gain popular support (populist support). And we are living that nightmare currently.
Aided by modern technology, micro targeting vulnerable segments of the population has been occurring for the past 4 yrs in Canada. Thus, the transformation from a humanist, pluralist Canadian ethos, to the hate fuelled nationalist & consequentialist one we are living within now.
CPC will win the next election. They effectively took control of the narrative during Harper’s years in office. And they’ve used the last 4 years to change the ethos of this nation.

Unless we stand up to the indoctrination efforts of CPC and conservative operatives in October.
Even that may not be enough.

The installation of guided democracy is occurring globally. And Harper is overseeing it from his perch at IDU.

The only way to remove a dictator is by mass protest, or mass mobilization of voters to overwhelm the vote rigging.

Current protests include:
Syria; Russia; Hong Kong; Venezuela

All include state sanctioned deaths of protesters.

To avoid this outcome, get out the vote.
