Unethical gaming of the system that should be condemned, but this also illustrates how f'd up college costs have gotten. These are supposed to be rich people and they claim to need to manipulate the system in this way to get by. propublica.org/article/univer…
I make no excuse for their behavior, but for me, this illustrates why we need full measures like Warren's plan. The more well-heeled will always find ways to game the system to their advantage. By making the ability to pay for college scarce, we beget this nonsense.
Rather than worrying about people who could pay for college getting something they don't need, we could make post secondary ed the public good it should be. Every fix advantages the wealthy anyway. Why not commit to a real change?
What these folks did was wrong, but it wasn't illegal. Why do we accept a system that allows/requires these workarounds to provide reasonable access to students who want some post-secondary education? It's unbelievable messed up.
