Tomorrow, 1 August, marks one year since the Government of #DRC declared an #Ebola outbreak in North Kivu province. @DrTedros, @UNReliefChief, @unicefchief & @WFPChief salute the heroic efforts of the #healthworkers on the front line 👉bit.ly/2MCSRpx
In the last year, there have been 2,687 #Ebola cases in #DRC, including 1,803 deaths in parts of Ituri & North Kivu provinces; 771 survivors and patients under care. bit.ly/2MCSRpx
#Ebola is a disease of close contact. It passes from mother to child, husband to wife, patient to caregiver, from the dead body of a victim to the mourning relative. bit.ly/2MCSRpx
#Ebola hurts local businesses, prevents children from going to school, hampers vital and routine health services. It is primarily a health crisis, but one that also critically impacts how people care for their family, view their neighbours and interact with their community.
The challenges to stopping further #Ebola transmission in #DRC are considerable but not insurmountable. The WHO and @UN and partners are continuing to ramp up the #Ebola response in support of the #DRC Government and to further bolster joint action. bit.ly/2MCSRpx
@UN @WHOAFRO @OMSRDCONGO @DrTedros @UN_News_Centre @unicefchief @UNReliefChief @WFPChief So far, over 170,000 people have been vaccinated against #Ebola in #DRC.
1,300 people have received unprecedented level of care and been treated with investigational therapies in 14 treatment and transit centres. bit.ly/2MCSRpx
@UN @WHOAFRO @OMSRDCONGO @DrTedros @UN_News_Centre @unicefchief @UNReliefChief @WFPChief So far, 77 million screenings of national and international travelers have been done.

20,000 contacts are visited daily to ensure they do not also become sick from #Ebola.

3,000 samples are tested in 8 laboratories every week.

@UN @WHOAFRO @OMSRDCONGO @DrTedros @UN_News_Centre @unicefchief @UNReliefChief @WFPChief Over 2,000 community engagement workers have been operating in affected - areas listening to concerns, gaining trust, and mobilizing local action. bit.ly/2MCSRpx
So far, over 440,000 #Ebola patients & contacts have been provided with food assistance in #DRC, crucial to limiting movement among people who could spread the disease. bit.ly/2MCSRpx
