We preprinted this work in March & a few days ago our results were already confirmed by two other pre-prints in @biorxivpreprint ! (Dodson from the Kennedy lab, Ouyang from the Seydoux lab). Pre-prints accelerate science! (2/4)

Take-home:
- Disrupting germ granules leads to deviations from Mendelian inheritance
- Silencing in granule mutants changes transgenerationally
- Paternal & maternal lineages transmit distinct granule-dependent sRNAs
- Ancestral granules determine the sRNAs of future generations
Oh, and while transgenerational inheritance of small RNAs is definitely a phenomenon best understood IN WORMS, I want to emphasize that germ granules are super conserved, and have been observed in tens of species (>100 if I remember correctly).

Read a comment to the effect that using the term “myths” means that the person has no faith & should be committed to an asylum. By that logic, many great AcAryas would be worthy of being committed for holding that myths reflect certain truths outside historical time & space.

Hot off the press, the Government has put out a paper setting out proposals for scrutiny of new trade agreements. Progress, though still feels a little reluctant. Positive step - a Parliamentary committee will scrutinise. Good. But...
Parliament still doesn't get any real vote. So we're going to be in the same situation as per Brexit, where we don't know if there is a Parliamentary majority. There should be an amendable motion up front to ensure there is genuine clarity and consensus
Reports of each round are welcome, as are more confidential briefs for the Parliamentary committee. But more thought needs to be given to whether text can be released during the process - the secrecy question otherwise looms

First and foremost, whatever happens today will have no legal consequences for Brexit, though obviously it is politically significant if the motion doesn't pass and/or the Soubry/Umunna amendment passes. (2)
Either way, attention will soon turn to the last week of February, when the real action will take place. At which point, the main, credible options facing parliament now are to approve the deal, hold indicative votes on the future relationship or extend Article 50. (3)

Hot off the press: POTUS speech at a Hanukkah reception an hour ago.

Starts with beautiful, sincere words honoring 41.

So sweet - POTUS invites some elderly Holocaust survivors up onto the platform, and VP leaves his spot to go help them up. Instinctive. Future President Pence is so like 41. I love him.
There are two Hanukkah receptions today. This is the 4pm one. I hope the 8pm reception is more like last year's, which was really beautiful and dignified. I'm sure it will be.

I think the reason for this one was that frail elderly people prefer to get home before nightfall.
