Had I been a candidate last night, this is how I would have handled health care questions: “Trump and the Republicans are trying to blow up our health care system with nothing to replace it except false promises. They want to take away protection for preexisting conditions
They fought and nail against Medicaid expansion, and besides denying coverage to women, infants and children, the result has been hundreds of rural hospitals closing. They promise cheap plans that have high deductibles and not coverage for any illness, a bait and switch
They are supporting a lawsuit to completely eliminate the Affordable Care Act. I am not hear to trash the plans of other Democrats. That is a useless exercise. We are all for providing universal coverage. How that happens will be fought out in the political process in Congress
There is one answer for all of us on health care: Republicans want to take it away from millions of Americans, give them false hope, allow even more bankruptcies from devastating medical bills. We want to find a way to get all Americans covered without bankrupting them
And we want everybody to go to sleep at night knowing that if a family membergets hit by a car, gets cancer or another terrible illness, has a chronic condition of mental or physical nature, it will be treated fully no matter their income or status.
