Great thread on the dangers of being ‘Guilty until proven innocent’

Going down this path is very dangerous and definitely *not* laws on which this country was founded.
We are living in a time when people say your tweets or thoughts are inciting violence.

People can call you crazy or racist and not only is it acceptable but CNN will give you a platform.

Giving our government the power to deem us as crazy will absolutely be abused.
This is absolutely correct and horrifying.

Although we have the 2nd amendment it can still be taken from us at any time.

If history has taught us anything, it’s the fact that when commies start demanding we ban guns it ALWAYS works out great for us peasants.
I mean, the citizens of Venezuela are thanking their leaders every day for taking their guns.

Everyone in the USSR were immediately safer the day guns were taken off of the streets.

This list is truly sickening and dangerous to the individuals named. This isn’t a list of billionaire companies. It’s a list of people that gave the $2,700 maximum donation.

Some are just individuals listed as “retired” one is even listed as “homemaker” for heavens sake.../1
Some are “entrepreneurs” and most are just a VERY small business.

Yes, this is public information but do this very same thing to Rashida Talib or any other Dems and the media would lose their ever lovin’ minds.

They know exactly what they’re doing..../2
And this could target the people named and everyone with a brain knows this.

I’m not surprised but honestly can’t believe people are defending this. @JulianCastro is defending his brother for tweeting this hit list and Dems are defending Castro and his brother. This is evil.

We also need to tackle the very existence of left-wing extremism in this nation. Of course we’ve already memory-holed the Dayton shooting and antifa’s terrorist attack on the ICE facility.
It’s incredible how quickly they’ve just forgotten about the violence of antifa.

It’s even more incredible how quickly they’ve forgotten about the Dayton shooting. Almost as quick as they forgot about a Bernie fan shooting up a baseball field full of DC lawmakers.
It’s almost like they don’t actually care about gun violence unless it fits their narrative.

THREAD: There’s a lot of overheated rhetoric going on over the recent election. Claims of voter fraud nationwide. Demands that mail-in ballots be eliminated. Demands that provisional ballots be eliminated. I will try to sort of the facts from the fiction.
Mail-in ballots: If we eliminate those, our military service members cannot vote. Is that really what you want? The problem with mail-in ballots is that the ID of the person voting has to be confirmed. This leads to lawyers arguing over signatures and is ripe for fraud.
For example, a partisan elections supervisor can reject a lot of ballots claiming the signatures don’t match. Then it’s up to the voter to prove otherwise. IOW, guilty until proven innocent. Doesn’t sound very American, does it? So, how do we solve this problem?

Since everyone's finally talking about what was intended to be a bedrock of the American legal system, let's set some facts straight!
The presumption of innocence, in theory, applies to all criminal legal proceedings in the U.S. It means the accused should be treated as "guilty until proven innocent."

The Eighth Amendment explicitly prohibits excessive bail as one way to safeguard this presumption.
The reality: over 500,000 Americans – disproportionately PoC – are incarcerated pretrial. The majority b/c they can't afford bail.

In other words, the # of Americans incarcerated pretrial > the ENTIRE incarcerated populations of Canada, Mexico, Japan, France & Germany combined.

But what makes this all the more pernicious is the Orwellian mindset they’ve adopted of a person being guilty until proven innocent. It turns the entire basis of our legal system, even our society, on its head.
We have always operated under the idea of due process and the presumption innocence. But in this age of sexual McCarthyism, all precedent is out the window.
