Guardian columnist Jason Hickel has gotten huge attention for arguing that global poverty has risen in recent decades.

The problem is, Hickel is completely and totally wrong:

Of course, the data showing huge drops in global poverty are so powerful that they should speak for themselves:

In any case, the fact that Hickel is wrong about the recent history of global poverty should by now be well-known and well-accepted.

He may still keep pressing his arguments, but substantively the debate is over.
