One reason I’m not having this “if you want to avoid No Deal, you *must* support a temporary govt led by Corbyn” bullshit is that the only good thing to come out of Brexit is the death of two-party politics and this bullshit is a rearguard action by Labour to recreate it
Also, if Labour succeed through this stratagem in kneecapping the LibDems electorally like they did in 2017, and making it a two-horse race between them and the Tories, the Tories will get more seats than Labour (but not a majority) and will form the next govt
Paradoxically, Labour need the LibDems to be highly competitive electorally in order for Labour to stand a good chance of being the largest party in the Commons. If they get the wind in their sails, the LibDems will do far more damage to the Conservatives than to Labour

Still can’t get over the fact that, on 28 July, the BBC has Tom Harwood on BBC Breakfast *alone* (not as part of a panel) to review the papers, as if he was some kind of credible, respected, impartial commentator
Here’s a reminder of when pro-Brexit zealot Tom Harwood manoeuvred himself into having to issue a grovelling apology to an ex-IRA member with convictions for explosives charges, because he accused her of involvement in the Brighton bombing (despite being warned it was defamatory)

With recent events in Westminster, talks of another #Brexit delay have come back. Both UK and EU27 have to unanimously agree to another extension.

What is being said about this in the EU?
1. The EU Commission President-Elect @vonderleyen takes office on 1 Nov. She previously said she would be open to another delay "for a good reason."

2. An EU source quoted by AFP says if delay comes from a new political situation like elections, or if it's for renegotiating on a new basis which fits the EU's principles, it is likely to be accepted.

If you based your understanding of the UK economy on what you saw on the evening news you might've presumed Dover was Britain's most important port, that after a no deal Brexit there would be tailbacks everywhere and car manufacturing is our most important industry... 1/
In fact reality v different. Dover is Britain's ninth biggest port & is an outlier in the way it works (mostly accompanied roll-on, roll-off, eg trucks with drivers). Dover will face problems if there's a no deal Brexit. Other ports less so (provided they have time to prep) 2/
And for all that the car industry hogs the headlines, it accounts for abt 0.7pc of total GDP, similar to the rubber/plastics manufacturing industry and a tiny fraction of service sector industries like IT, real estate or finance 3/

A majority in this parliament needs to get to 320. It's been repeated so often that it has become a truth—that there is a majority for a soft Brexit in parliament.

Here's why that's almost certainly not the case.

Let's start with the Labour Party (245 MPs).

Soft Brexit is the position of the leadership (see JC letter to TM 6/2).

But there are at least 60 strong backers of a people's vote in the PLP & maybe 5 who want a harder Brexit.

So Labour brings max 180 MPs to soft Brexit.

Well, Scotland voted to Remain, and yesterday Sturgeon said: "preferably asking for a longer extension to put the issue back to voters".

So don't count on any SNP support for soft Brexit

#Brexit GE needs Some tories to support it which is unlikely given thst keeping corbyn out is the one thing that unites they would have a leader who intends to step down which is unlikely
The DUP definitely don't want a GE as they lose their leverage and ability to extract bribes
