Amazon is opening a store near one of the great independents in the entire country. Do not let the vital, neighborhood member be subsumed by the cheap corporate knockoff. nytimes.com/2019/08/26/opi…
There's a straightforward response to the Amazon retail store opening near neighborhood Indies, do not shop there. This is what I recommended when an Amazon store opened up in Chicago's Southport corridor. chicagotribune.com/entertainment/…
As @borrelli wrote in the Tribune, Amazon is a marketing experiment, not a bookstore. These stores suck. Do not shop there. chicagotribune.com/entertainment/…
@borrelli There's a history of this stuff. In the 80's my mom's independent bookstore almost went under because of Crown Books coming in and selling best sellers as loss leaders. chicagotribune.com/entertainment/…
@borrelli The only way The Book Bin survived was by my mom not taking a salary and because there was enough local support to get them through until Crown imploded from its own business model. Easily could've gone under, but store is now closing in on 50 years of continuous operation.
