In response to our latest article, we have been asked by a former patient of Dr. Curtis Crane to share this video, which chronicles a series of complications experienced after a phalloplasty procedure.

"I feel like there's a lot of silencing in regards to these complications...maybe on the [trans] community side, they're so protective of these surgeons....like these surgeons are gods....they're helping us and we have to kind of take whatever we can get."

"My entire goal with this is not to tell people whether they should or should not have phalloplasty. What I want is for people to have true, true--and I mean true informed consent."

"There's many other people w/ similar--worse--experiences w/these surgeries. I don't want my story to be used asked anybody....but, hey, these are facts. And if anyone wants to come after me, go right ahead, because I have full documentation and I'm not afraid."

In the video, the ex-patient mentions fistulas as a known (and common) complication. That, as well as the more severe complications, need to be talked about more so that adult FTMs can assess risk. This article confirms fistulas occur in 10-64% of cases.
