When I was a kid, every earth science class I took, all I heard was "Save the Rainforests."
I can't fathom sometimes (operative word) that now, I'm 33 and here we are. Always seemed adults in the room had reverence for the rainforests and understood their planetary value.
I don't doubt there are students learning about how critical rainforests are today. Not the point ATM. The point, for me: does it matter how much you say "Save the Rainforests" every year to students if this is where it ends up? Platitudes are not collective planning and action.
I wonder if the young kids in school who learn of climate change will ask this type question when they are my age.
"Why did they ignore this? Why didnt they care more? Didnt anyone think to plan for the worst?"
My concern does not live or die with resolving the blame game or who could have done what or what administration fell short. I know education, politics, economics etc, all of these things have led us to where we are today on climate.
I just wonder sometimes if we are actually going to have the audacity to fall short *again* and leave all of these climate problems to the human beings currently sitting in 2nd grade earth science class?
