im here in philly for the “minds irl” conference, featuring andy ngo, tim pool, sargon of akkad and a fleet of other right wing youtubers. after a last minute venue change, it’s gonna be at a casino.
and another speaker has dropped out, citing threats.
former UKIP candidate mark meechan, aka count dankula, will be there
decided to go the mütter museum before the event to take a closer look at some skull calipers. i know andy ngo isn’t part of quillette anymore, but, what can i say? nostalgia
Another act at the Sugar House Casino, to give context to the Minds IRL venue
a pretty big crowd here. this is the “comedy” panel
damn now ill never find out what happens when you disrespect the flag
“pornography is not speech,” argues one panelist
i walked out of the press room to hear “chinks, wops, gooks, spics... but n******s are okay.” uproarious laughter. here’s video of immediately after bc i didnt catch that moment on film. arguments against hate speech bans
“it makes no sense to ban any kind of speech outside of direct threats,” says one speaker
pic of the crowd that laughed so loudly at the n word
i spoke to andy ngo, who declined to be on camera, and also declined to comment on: what his new projects are, being beside patriot prayer as they planned an attack, and publicizing eoin lenihan’s debunked list of “antifa” journalists
tim pool, when asked about an infamous photo of him hanging out with baked alaska and other alt righters, said there’s a photo of him with a “soviet general.” when i pointed out that the soviet union dissolved in 1991, he mentioned he taught migrant kids to fly a drone once
i tried to film that interview but apparently didn’t. anyway i asked him if his beanie smells. he said he has ten of them.
currently eavesdropping on a conversation between a dude in the brightest shirt ive ever seen and a denim suit + a guy in a tommy robinson shirt loudly discussing the mossad
Tyler, an attendee, describes himself as a devout Christian nationalist and free speech absolutist. “in no other country could you say niggerfaggot and not get arrested for it,” he says.
Josh and Jim are here separately. Josh opposes minimum wage laws and belives in “liberty, not freedom from the government.” Jim is a big Sargon of Akkad fan and says he has issues with mainstream media portrayals of events like this as “Nazi.”
i am taking a brief break because this has used up 5000% of my social energy for the year
this man flew out from california to see sargon of akkad
one count dankula superfan keeps referring to him as “dank”
Alan says he appreciates the “diversity of opinion here.” For example, he spoke to an ethnonationalist, but he himself is a civic nationalist.
Christian gets most of his news from Tim Pool because he “covers things so fairly.”
Jeff and Amanda are both staunch libertarians. Amanda just registered to vote for the first time.
Andrew is a fan of about half the creators here, particularly Sargon and Tim Pool. He prefers Bitchute to Youtube because Youtube has gotten so “censorious” he does not want to give it traffic.
this panel involves count dankula discussing the “future of comedy”. dankula says: “if you see someone saying racism is bad, nazis are bad, white supremacists are bad, i assume they’ve probably raped someone.”
The theme of the event is debate across ideological perspectives. Christian, who I spoke to earlier, mentioned there are progressives here, but he “hasn’t met any.”
Jeanesca came up from Florida to this event. She describes herself as a “radical traditionalist” and libertarian who believes in the separation of the races. “Other people can fuck who they want — I’m a libertarian — but I would not marry outside my race.”
Anna, who wouldn’t permit a photo, says Nazis are the real leftists: “They’re literally socialists.”
The man who I earlier described as a “Christian nationalist” emphasized that he is in fact both a Christian and a nationalist. He is chasing me around the event calling me a propagandist and a liar and telling people not to talk to me. I was told to exit through the press room.
During the panel on “political violence” (for which Andy Ngo got a standing ovation) some folks approached me about my tweets and I beat a hasty retreat. Bye Minds IRL!
Ngl, being chased through a casino and streaking to the exit felt very James Bond
I’m safe and fine! I must admit “being chased by racists through a casino” wasn’t on my life bingo card but life is a rich tapestry
Anyway I ended the night with cheesesteaks and anarchist zines with a beloved comrade so fear not Philly, I don’t define you by nationalist idiots on cheesy ass panels
oh and here are texts from some antifascist observer sweethearts who witnessed my exit:
