Many of us wrote about similar episodes later on. One of the craziest (and most telling) stories I ever encountered was about a Catholic non-profit hospital whose lawyers took a patient to court over her unpaid bills. The patient was a former nun. chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-20…
Of course, as with any debt forgiveness proposal, there are questions/debates about how much to forgive, where the money comes from, and what it means for people who had such debts but paid them off in the past.
