/ Serious question for Bernie supporters, asked without rancor. I'm genuinely curious: According to this April poll, roughly 1/5 to 1/4 of Sanders supporters say they would vote for Trump over other Dem candidates advocate.com/politics/2019/…... So here's my question...
/ Given that 26% say they'd vote for Trump over Warren (the Dem whose policies/focus are closest to Bernie), and she is the Dem they would LEAST support over Trump, I'm really trying to understand what motivates this, both generally, and re: her...
/ Assuming you are not one of those -- because if you are, your claims to progressivism are counterfeit by any rational measure and I'm not interested in hearing from you -- please explain this. Obviously sexism is one possible reason in general, to be sure...
/ Although, interestingly, only 17% say they'd vote for Trump over Harris (still disturbing), but that's much better than the 26% who would vote Trump over Warren. I'm curious about the special dislike of Warren. Can't be over policy bc she's further left than the rest...
/ And bigger question: does it bother the rest of Bernie supporters that your movement attracts such a large chunk of people whose "If I don't get my way, I'll just blow the whole thing up...that'll show em!" attitude drives their behavior? Does this nihilism concern you?..
/ Does it say something about yr candidate that he attracts people w/this kind of misanthropic "screw em all" mentality? Are you regularly challenging this tendency within the Bernie ranks? ...
/ It just seems indicative of something in this movement that it attracts so many 'screw everyone who doesn't think like me' people, more so than other candidates, whose supporters overwhelmingly say they would vote Bernie if he got the nom, and never would vote Trump...
/ Although I think it's also absurd to say u would stay home & not vote unless Bernie got the nom, even that would be better than voting 4 Trump. I can't envision any significant % of other leading Dem's supporters saying they would vote for Trump...so what is that about?...
/ And what kind of progressive movement is it really, which has so many of these people in their ranks? And what is being done within the movement to challenge that thinking? Because if these people remain in the Bernie camp, it seems hard to see how it remains truly left...
/ It seems a big % of its adherents would just b populists in general -- hating "the elite" -- w/o any real clear analysis. It's like they figure Bernie sticks it to the rich (right wing elite) and Trump sticks it to media/show biz (liberal elite), and both are equally good...
/ ...just because "I hate elitists!" But "I hate elitists" is not a politic. It's just angst masquerading as analysis. Are these 1/5 to 1/4 the Bernie supporters who are basically racists but hate the rich too, so they'd vote for him but Trump as second choice?...
/ Are they accelerationists who think things "have to get worse before they get better" & figure if Bernie doesn't get it, Trump will make things so bad "the revolution will come, man..."? Are they just sexists who resent women candidates bc they're still bitter over Hillary?..
/ Or are they just trolls who say they'd vote Trump just to scare other Dem voters 2 back Bernie "or else!" And if the latter is the case, what does THAT say about the movement...that it attracts so many people who just think intimidation and trolling is good politics?...
