September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, which reminds us of the ongoing need to improve how we treat mental health. With suicide on the rise in nearly every state, we must match increasing awareness with concrete action to address our mental health crisis.
In June, I introduced the bipartisan Mental Health Parity Compliance Act to better enforce existing laws requiring mental health care be covered equally by insurance companies. It would also direct agencies to address patient complaints and report to Congress on noncompliance.
