@EUrologyReg @mdouganlpool [1] While we agree with some of @mdouganlpool 's points (especially at the start of the thread) there are three major flaws in the rest. 1. He creates a straw man soft leaver 'vision' of efta/EEA that supposes we think we can get all the merits of SM without any downsides.
@EUrologyReg @mdouganlpool [2] he underestimates the potential impact of a major country (UK) leaving EU pillar of EEA and joining efta pillar. Currently only 13.6 million people currently live in the four EFTA countries. Efta pillar would have vastly increased population and much greater diplomatic heft.
@EUrologyReg @mdouganlpool 3. Outside of EU cfsp the UK would have an independent voice on all international bodies whose standards feed into EU regulatory mechanisms. The work of Professor of EU External Relations Law Steven Blockmans and Professor Ramses A. Wessel is useful in this area. /End
